A great destination for you! Hudson, NY.

A great destination for you! Hudson, NY.
The Country Living Fair called us up to Dutchess County New York last weekend and we had such a great time I wanted to share our trek in case you are looking for a summer destination away from the beach.

Of course I get all the home magazines and I have noticed Country Living Magazine has gotten thinner and thinner over the years. I guess they are trying to stay alive and started sponsoring these Country Living Fairs all over the US.

I noticed it was much more well attended then last year and I will have to credit the show Fixer Upper for the increased interest in the country look.  There wasn't really any furniture, mostly small decorative items and a lot of handmade organic soaps, lotions, scarves and jewelry.

You are all aware of the country barn wedding trend....so sweet!

There were plenty of comedic subjects and I was happy to see one of my favorite vendors who travels the country with her cool clothes and backpacks

A few shots at the fair and town. The town of Rhinebeck is very small but worth a stroll. At the fair I noticed these porcelain leg herb markers. Also someone was selling old love letters for $3.00. We splurged on my fav....well done fries!

We drove 30 minutes north to the town of Hudson where the grand Inn at Hudson welcomed us.

Beautiful mature gardens and wide stone steps from the backyard patio.

The very large statue on the left was marble...there was a pair flanking the patio.

The house has been meticulously restored. An Italian artisan who was VERY busy in NYC didn't like the challenging parking at jobs so he moved to Hudson where he happily charged the owners $20.00 an hour.....how can that be true??

The dining room...

The dining room had no corners but each end had these spectacular curved cabinets....

Intricate inlaid floors throughout, raised plaster ceilings, original brass hardware and hand carvings and marble fireplaces.

My favorite spot was the grand butlers pantry...I'm dying! Old glass doors, marble countertops and original brass hardware. There were 3 of these very large built ins. "Load the truck!"

The artwork was modern which is just what we preach at GreatHouse!

Our bedroom was very special. THAT BED! All the plaster moldings and the railings, paint, etc was museum quality.

Amazing peacock in the library where on Sunday a pianist filled the Inn with music.

Our innkeepers were more than friendly and we enjoyed hearing their stories....and boy could they cook. Some of the sumptuous breakfast dishes made from organic and local farm fresh ingredients were fritattas, one made with Swiss chard and Dutch knuckle cheese,  arugula salad with beets and apples, homemade pastries and fresh fruit. The carrot cake was topped with glazed carrots and tiny blue poppy seeds....I'm definitely making this for Father's Day!

The antique shops in Hudson are plentiful and quite high end. We noticed that every business except one was on Warren Street. A very charming town where you can spend the day.

My husband rented bikes for us and we took a good ride up to Olana, an historic estate of the famed Hudson River School painter Frederic Church. It's always fun to have a biking destination.

The restaurants in Hudson are sophisticated in offerings and the signage! The bottom right photo is of a gas station converted into a cool bar with live music. My favorite restaurant is SWOON! Picture on the left is Fish and Game. Everything is walking distance from the Inn which is really nice.

This food truck fixture placed a screen door as an entrance....so funny!

Appetizers at the Crimson Sparrow.

After a morning of biking, Roger said he was "just resting" while I dress shopped.

I am showing this flyer in case you have to jump in the car and get there soon. It seems there is something going every other weekend in Hudson although our innkeeper said the Fall is their busiest season for both weddings and Fall foliage appreciation. I just loved our weekend...let me know if you make the trip, I think you'll enjoy it.

Many of you showed interest in our gorgeous handmade wisteria branch in the current window display garden. We are changing the display and are now offering this creation for sale!  It would be wonderful for a summer
party or even in a girls bedroom.  $325.00. 908-522-8900

We are still unpacking and adding new items each day, the website has updates too! We're here to help!

Warm regards,
